Come for Robin saying "F---Batman," stay to see how many bodies the teens drop trying to stop the occult apocalypse prefigured by Raven. [12 Oct 2018, p.49]

The superhero Sturm und Drang and personal melodrama that Titans offers is attractively packaged and reasonably entertaining in the early episodes. ... If you’re partial to the more serious end of the comic-book spectrum, you may already be watching “Black Lightning” on CW, “Jessica Jones” and a few others on Netflix, “Legion” on FX, “The Runaways” on Hulu and “Gotham” on Fox. “Titans” may deserve to join the list, but it’s a big ask.

Titans is a superhero hybrid -- a live-action series that essentially weds the CW's DC Comics-inspired fare with the gritty, premium-cable approach of Marvel's Netflix dramas. That's not a bad formula, and it yields an entertaining, heavily serialized show.

Another superhero show is overkill, but for what it is, Titans strong-arms its way into acceptance and occasionally more (the series’ depiction of a Beaver Cleaver-style family of killers, introduced in episode two, is especially clever).

Titans is a try-too-hard stab at occupying a middle ground between grumpy, but still family friendly, DC offerings like The CW's Arrow and the definitely-not-for-kids Marvel shows on Netflix. ... What it doesn't mean, at least through the three episodes sent to critics, is any sort of extra creative depth or narrative exploration.

Titans is poorly made, acted, and written enough to be considered a “bad” show, but not nearly crazy, ambitious, or just plain weird enough to be worth it for the discussion alone. It is a slog. It is, in fact, the sloggiest slog I’ve ever slogged.

Thwaites doesn’t have anything near the gravitas required to pull off this self-righteously vicious approach. If you’re going to say “Fuck Batman,” that’s your right. But you’d better back it up with more than what Titans has to offer, or you just seem like a frustrated poseur who wants to seem much tougher and cooler than you can ever hope to be.

It perfectly shows that DC can still handle the gritty and dull nature of their universe. I also like how different this is to the cartoon shows, it's much more serious in tone with a bit of humor mixed in. Its gritty and dull nature set it apart from all the other live-action DC TV Shows. What I love most about this show, is its constant theme of family and companionship, definitely worth the watch if you love the Titans. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's actually pretty great. Love the dynamic between Rachel and Kory, love Thwaites, really diggin the whole "dark, edgy" vibe. I think the major problem with is the fact that by episode three we haven't really had a glimpse of who is the bad guy, the big bad of the season, but that is just eclipsed by the DC Energy that the show have. Greg Berlanti is producing, which means his extreme politics will likely find their way into the show... but they haven't yet.

Robin, played by Dean Venture, is a little light weight for the gravitas they are trying to pretend his character has.
Of course anyone trying to give Robin gravitas is very confused.

Fairuza Balk plays Raven as well as she has played this character before and actually manages to upstage most of the rest of the cast. Ironically, she is one of the bright spots of this series.

Starfire, is played stiffly by RuPaul and honestly I'm just waiting for the actress to do something worth commenting on.

Lots of blood, poorly filmed fight scenes and lots of brooding.
So why an 8? To enjoy this you must forget everything you know about DC's properties or these characters and just ride the addictive crazy train that it is.

I'm still not sure why DC thinks they need everything dark and gritty. My best memories of their material has always been the bright and happy.

Watching Titans was confusing and entertaining at the same time. If that makes any sense.

It made me shake my head when Raven was one screen, it made me role my eyes with the poor choreographed fight scenes, but it made me hopeful at the potentially great story that can come.People were bashing starfire simply for her suit, but in my opinion she was the best part of the pilot.

But it's a promising start, for the series, and i really think that this slow start will payoff in the end (of the season)
