Blackout is the best battle-royale experience available today, zombies offers crazy customizable co-op, and multiplayer keeps things grounded for those looking for the classic core.

There will always be those that lament it for the lack of a single player campaign, but what Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 does for its multiplayer experience is nothing less than phenomenal. Traditional multiplayer has never been better thanks to a few tweaks and additions here and there that elevate the action to a whole new level, while the all new Blackout mode does Battle Royale better than anyone else. And on top of that, Zombies continues to impress us with a plethora of mechanics to engage with and scenarios to complete. As a package, you’re going to struggle to find much better than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in the multiplayer market this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is fantastic, plain and simple. The concerns over the game not being worth it due to a lack of a single-player campaign seem overblown, when compared to how much effort was put into improving the online modes. This easily feels like one of the most content-filled Call of Duty entries and I can absolutely recommend picking this up, even if you’re a since-jaded fan of the first-person shooter series.
  4. Oct 15, 2018
It’s probably one of the best multiplayer shooters released this year, and the AAA implementation of a battle royale is a fascinating thing to play, too.

It takes exactly what people love about the series and continues to fine tune the things it does best. This is the Call of Duty that Treyarch is known for. The story is still there, intertwined with lore about the multiplayer Specialists, but this drastic shift for the series has allowed Treyarch to pour far more resources into the parts of their game that keep fans coming back. Black Ops 4 might be missing a campaign, but it still feels like the most robust the series has ever been.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a pleasant surprise. While it’s lacking in any major offering for those wanting a campaign to play through, everything else is refined and iterated on in meaningful ways. Blackout is a blast, traditional multiplayer is as good as it’s been in years, and Zombies is insanity in all the right ways. Minor concerns aside, this is the best Call of Duty package I’ve played in a long, long time, and think the trade off of a campaign for Blackout — something I was more than surprised by — has been well worth it.

The ultimate Call of Duty multiplayer experience.
  8. Oct 11, 2018
Black Ops 4 takes multiple ideas from other modern shooters today which breathes new life into the series making it an ideal multi-player First Person Shooter that presents something special to its fans despite their diverse preferences.
  9. Oct 15, 2018
The traditional multiplayer offers the most classic and satisfying shooting experience. The maps of Zombies mode is greatly expanded. Black Out makes a great progress for battle-royale games in terms of battles. Though Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 doesn't make much difference compared with its prequel or other battle-royale games, it's still the best shooting game on earth.
  10. Oct 15, 2018
Although I miss the single player campaign, Zombies provides story-based gameplay for those who prefer to have a reason to be doing so much killing. I would have liked to see more game modes in the multiplayer mode given the game's multiplayer focus, and the absence of any of the casual alternative modes like Gun Game is surprising. The game does provide some additional variety in terms of the number of maps available at launch, which is welcome. The Blackout mode is excellent, the synergy of Call of Duty gunplay and battle royale gameplay instantly make Black Ops 4 a standout in this gaming genre.
  11. Oct 11, 2018
Blackout is a great addition to the formula, and the game has the best multiplayer in years, with some elements from "hero shooters", but the engine is getting old and we miss the solo campaign.
  12. Oct 11, 2018
One thing is for certain, Black Ops 4 is easily the best multiplayer experience we have seen from the franchise to date. With a robust line-up of multiplayer maps, 3 graphically stunning zombie experiences and featuring the best battle royale shooter on the planet, Call of Duty fans should be thrilled with what Black Ops 4 is offering. Sure, the lack of a single player mode is a bit of downer and I do feel like Activision is positioning itself to monetize the crap out of Blackout. Yet at the end of the day, Black Ops 4 is the most definitive and complete Call of Duty multiplayer experience and is primed to take a big chunk out of PUBG and Fortnite’s market share.
  13. Oct 15, 2018
If you’re the sort of gamer who usually looks down their nose at the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 4 might just be the game that changes your opinion ever so slightly. Old-school purists can find their competitive multiplayer fix, and with the revamped Zombies and new Blackout mode, there’s no denying that Treyarch’s latest stands well out from the pack.

    Quotation forthcoming.
  15. Oct 15, 2018
My experience with Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has been extremely positive, and I’m having a blast with the game. Don’t let the fact that there’s no campaign fool you into thinking that this year’s offering is light, there is a ton of content that will take even harcore players time to tap into. While lacking some of the expected Call of Duty polish, Blackout is by far the centerpiece of the game, and will likely stand as an exemplar in the Battle Royale genre.
  16. Oct 15, 2018
We are missing its campaign, but our tears will be wiped by the excellent Blackout mode or its expanded multiplayer or coop options. A great Call of Duty if you are one of those that weren't into its single player campaign.
  17. It’s smaller, but it’s also undeniably bolder and more focused than any of its recent predecessors. And for a series known for its more is more philosophy, that’s no small feat.
  18. Oct 11, 2018
Even without the campaign, Black Ops 4 is a solid FPS and one of the most fun and adrenaline-fueled competitive shooters out there. A lot of content, refined gunplay and a new battle royale mode fully justify its price.
  19. Oct 11, 2018
Black Ops 4 brings the fun and dares to change. There might not be a campaign, but its replacement called Blackout is so much fun to play. Even if Battle Royale isn't your thing, you can still find enjoyment in the revamped Zombies and the multiplayer modes.
  20. Oct 15, 2018
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has ushered in a new era of AAA: one where every studio and their grandmother tries to pack a battle royale gametype into their project. The thing is Activision actually did it right, while also providing a strong zombies outing alongside of its token traditional multiplayer element.
  21. Oct 15, 2018
While it lacks the reinvention of some of its predecessors, Call of Duty: Black Ops IV is dutifully crafted, meticulously polished, and the best Call of Duty multiplayer outing in years.
  22. Oct 15, 2018
The battle royale mode is slick, tense and the most exciting addition to Call of Duty in years. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a solid entry in the franchise thanks to Blackout and Zombies, and though multiplayer may not having any exciting new features, there’s still plenty of fun on offer. This Call of Duty can safely be declassified.
  23. Oct 15, 2018
Despite the lack of a campaign and any tonal consistency, Black Ops 4 boasts a thrilling entry into the battle royale space.
  24. Oct 11, 2018
Treyarch package is not without defects - even substantial ones - but overall the proposal of this chapter is perfectly able to satisfy the appetites of war enthusiasts, and provides them with plenty of hours of fun.
  25. Oct 11, 2018
Black Ops 4 is the best Call of Duty game so far... multiplayer-wise. It has plenty of options and game modes, and its own Battle Royale mode —Blackout— can hold its own against the behemoths of Fortnite and PUBG, but it does really need a graphical overhaul.
  26. Oct 11, 2018
BO4 is above all affordable and complete without revolutionizing the series.
  27. Oct 11, 2018
With Black Ops 4, Treyarch has clearly made the biggest community-oriented game of the series, but it still feels like an opus that lacks ambition, relying instead on proven mechanics.

None of these changes are so immense that they alter the fundamental DNA of Call of Duty. Everything you love (or hate) is still intact. The tactics imbued by specialist classes and more nuanced loadouts will only affect players who choose to engage with them. For players who don’t — and after playing Call of Duty online with random players for years, we imagine most won’t — Black Ops 4 multiplayer is business as usual. It’s fast, frantic, and unforgiving.
  2. Oct 11, 2018
Blackout is so fun that it could be a game unto itself, complete with set pieces that the players themselves create, either through bloopers in my case or amazing expert gameplay by others. It might take you 30 matches to become proficient at it.
  3. Oct 11, 2018
With standard multiplayer and Zombies, it struggles to fully commit to moving forward, and the mix of old content and new ideas doesn't always gel. From what I've played so far, Blackout more successfully incorporates elements of Black Ops' past while forming its own take on trends of the present.
  4. Oct 15, 2018
As for the moment, I can’t escape the feeling that this is the best Call of Duty game in a while which is great news for long term fans and new alike. It really does seem that not having a story campaign may not have been the worst decision for Treyarch.
  5. Oct 15, 2018
Black Ops 4’s Zombies is the showcase of a confident team that has iterated and improved the formula they created. [Zombies - review in progress]
  6. Oct 12, 2018
Treyarch may have sacrificed what many believe is a crucial part of the Call Of Duty package but, in a way, it feels as though the developer has broken free, no longer shackled by that iron cast template we’ve come to expect year in, year out. Black Ops 4 is a radical step forward for the franchise and one we can’t wait to play more of.

No campaign which should already drop the price of this game by $20. The specialist missions don't make a good substitute as they are too brief and explore characters that made Black Ops 3 terrible as well as this game.

Only 10 new Multiplayer maps which look dull and uninspired; and they all have the same 3 lane design. Same hit detection, lag, server and playability issues. Rewarding bad play with participation trophies such as specialists. Bad gun design and sound effects. Cringe worthy quotes and emotes from forgettable characters.

Blackout is okay but after a few games you have done everything. This mode should be a free downloadable game and not have a price tag like it currently does. It will end up like PUBG and burn to the ground by next year due to its price and more than likely decline in quality like regular Call of Duty games

Zombies, great as usual. Really enjoy the variety of maps and new characters who are actually engaging to the player. 3 maps on launch is a treat and the new mechanics make the mode feel fresh and fun. Sadly one diamond in a pile of dirt does not make the dirt valuable as well.

Activision and Treyarch's revenue strategies are appalling and need to be reviewed by gaming regulators. Loot boxes (gambling) in Multiplayer, an expensive season pass with less content, liquid divnium, Blackout content and ridiculous base price for half of a Call of Duty game.

Treyarch could have been the saviour of Call of Duty but they are the cash grabbers who will exploit every person's wallet if they get the chance. If they cared they would have left Activision, they're in it for the money as well. I feel sorry for people like Jason Blundell who work so hard to make a fun game and it's ruined by the top corporates who seek to leak you of every dollar.

How this works is each category gets a score out of 2, add all and that's the score out of 10

    Single Player: 0
    Multiplayer: 0
    Blackout: 1
    Zombies: 2
    Pricing/Content/Ethics: 0

Overall: A lazy and uninspired effort by Treyarch. Black Ops 3 without the jetpacks and ripping off more trends to keep a dying franchise relevant. First they ripped Titanfall and Halo, now its Overwatch and PUBG. If it was going to be a cut and paste game, charge it like one and not like its God of War or Spider-Man. Buy whatever you want, but if you want to see change to what you buy and be charged fairly for what you play, you need to stop buying these unfinished products. $200 for all map content + additional money for Micro DLC and a 55gb day one patch for servers to play up. Poor form Treyarch

There are Specialist missions with story instead, which are poorly designed compared to the traditional campaigns. You can't even play those offline. The gun mechanics are trash. The gun sounds are a joke. The physics are horrible.

Blackout mode is just a cheap version of Battlefield. The developers promised the "best and most refined mechanics" in the trailer, yet the mechanics are terrible. You can't even destroy any buildings. This game mode lacks vehicle variety. There are no jet fighters, or any planes to be found. Zombie mode lacks innovation. The regular Multiplayer is boring and repetitive. The maps are about the same as the last game, with a fresh coat of paint.

The worst part of this game is that it requires a 50 GB patch to play. That makes the physical copy pointless. You can play multiplayer and Zombies with bots and splitscreen offline. But what's the point of having any of that if you need Internet to play? Not everyone has good internet, and it's pathetic how anti-consumer the developers are. The CODs before WWII didn't required internet. I don't recommend this game at all. Internet required games are a disgrace.
